There are lots of ingredients that are not or might be not vegan. E.g. Lecithin can be either but carminic acid is never vegan.

It used to be a lot harder, having to memorise lists of possible ingredients, only buying vegan labeled products or only cooking from raw ingredients, however now there are apps that will do the hard work for you, Is It Vegan is one http://isitvegan.net/

When cooking South Asian food the biggest concerns are in pre made sauces and baked goods though there are some other surprises that can catch you out (organic fruit may be coated in shellac!). Some habits have to be relearned, no reaching for the ghee, if you're used to adding egg to dough try using besan flour instead. Cooking for vegans takes some learning though it's not too hard.

Hi Hari! My wife and I, we aren’t 100% vegan fans, but we have radically reduced our meat consumption in the last few years. We are very fond of vegan and vegetarian dishes. We have already tried some of your vegetarian dishes, which are really delicious!!! I haven’t got any particular questions, but am very very interested in any information about vegan food. So, I’ll be looking forward to your article @Hari Ghotra! Cheers, Latif PS: Those broccoli cakes look really yummy!!!!!
