Good afternoon, I have a question, I bought some Natco Urid Beans, are they Urid Dal or is that different? These are just round beans and require soaking.🤔

It's all Dhal @stripybag. They're all Dhals. Just depends what end result you'd like! Try cooking a few dhals, with different pulses: Red Lentil dhal, Dhal Makhani, Mung Masoor di Dhal, Mahaar Chole di Dhal, all @Hari Ghotra's recipes. I love dhals so my cupboard staples have grown from the basic humble red lentil, to urad dhal, urad beans, chana dhal, toor dhal, mung beans, mung dhal, etc etc! Lots of luck 💕

Thanks @Jo Dunn, I’ll give them a try. Is it better to buy Dal next time ?🍴

P.S. @Hari Ghotra has a recipe for whole black urad dhal, together with chana dhal (split chick peas), which is absolutely delicious. But you use whichever pulses you like @stripybag. I know Sue Geen, for example, makes a 4 bean dhal, which always sounds good 😋💕

They're fab! Urad or urid beans are the whole black bean. Urad/urid dal is the same bean but split in two, maybe black skin still on, or hulled and looking white. I have used either the whole bean or the split bean for several different Dhal, Dahl, dal recipes! The whole bean needs soaking. Do you have a pressure cooker? as that would reduce cooking times. @stripybag 💕
