Hi all sorry about the chilli confusion - I have amended the recipe (oversight on my part). For this dish I would chop the chillies and cook them into the masala. @Arthur vdH you are correct whole chillies in a pie would not be pleasant. Also remove the bay before filling the pies. So great I have you guys to send me this feedback - thank you @Jo dunn @andrewsherman
Jo your pies look spectacular.

The thing is, @Jo dunn , if you’re eating this as a separate dish, you can eat around the chilli. In a pie you’d run the risk of biting into a while chilli or biting down on a stem. That’s why I thought it best to remove them.

I looked up Hari's original 'chicken balti ' and the recipe is the same as the pie filling, minus the spinach. So I watched bits of the video (Friday curry club) to see what she did. She chopped up one green chilli and added three whole (unpierced) chillis!!!! And I couldn't see her remove them at the end. Four in total as she was cooking a smaller amount than the recipe. @Arthur vdH @andrewsherman @Sue Geen @traceyross

@Arthur vdH to me the maths didn’t work out as there was no mention to remove them or stick them in a pie, or 6 🔥😝 agreed with what you say about the heat too.

Thank you @andrewsherman and @traceyross, very interesting re quantity and use of the chillies. We need @Hari Ghotra to reveal all! @Arthur vdH 🌶🌶

I thought they needed to be added whole @andrewsherman because the recipe so explicitly calls for ‘whole chillies’. But I’m curious too, because six unchopped chillies isn’t all that much heat. Why reduce then? :-)

@Hari Ghotra what were we to do with the chillies? I chopped up and used, the recipe ingredients stated chillies and method just said add? I didn’t see any where to remove them either.

Ah, I'd chopped them all up, so left them in!!!! Wasn't sure from the recipe what to do, so I just went for it! 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
I seem to have become much more chilli tolerant @Arthur vdH

Creative @Jo dunn and they came out well! I used six, but I took them and the bay leaf out when I filles the pies. I had one chilli explode on me. Another lesson for next time: pierce the chillies.

yes I used 6 too. we had the leftover filling last night as a main with rice, and it was quite spicy. other times the same chilli types have seen mild. just shows you need to taste as you go along. you can add but not remove!

I used the same, 6. I do find sometimes they’re hotter than other times. I think you need to taste them first!!
