I'd use kashmiri chilli powder. Great for that red colour but doesn't carry much heat.
@Karen Maria shouldn’t do too much but it’s not the vibrant red it’s a bit darker. You can get ratanjot on Amazon and surprised the Indian shops didn’t have it. I use Kashmiri chilli
@lesishy.li I’ve seen some for medicinal purposes. Wonder if that’s the edible version too
@Hari Ghotra I always use Kashmiri or degghi Mirch. I have also heard of beetroot powder, but not sure if that will affect the taste too much.
A good alternative is just Kashmiri chilli powder for the colour if you can’t get it.
Also known as alcanot root I looked it up. you can get it on Amazon but it is expensive. I hadn't heard of it either.
