Happy Wednesday guys - I hope you are all having a fantastic week.
We need to get ready again so who is going to cook with me for week's #FridayCurryClub?
I thought we should do something a bit more hands on and a bit different so we will be cooking Momo's and a delicious achaar to go with them.
Momo's are little Nepalese bites that are similar to Chinese dumplings which can be fried or steamed and they are delicious. If you want to make a meal of why not marinade some chicken wings or paneer in my tandoori marinade and get them prepped beforehand for a full on Friday night snack fest!
I will be using minced chicken but you can use grated paneer and peas or for a vegan option shredded cabbage and mixed veg is great too.
Join me here https://youtu.be/-kQ4GCkjw14 at 6.15pm - so set your timers!!
This is what you will need:
For the Momo filling:
500g of minced chicken (or a meat free alternative)
4-5 spring onions
1-2 chillies
4 cloves garlic
5cm piece of ginger
1 tsp coriander seeds, crushed
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp cumin seeds, crushed
2 tbsp oil 1tsp salt or 1 tsp soy sauce
Handful of fresh coriander leaves

For the Momo wrappers:
300g Plain flour
Pinch of salt
Water

For the Momo Achaar:
200ml water
3 large ripe tomatoes
4-5 dried Kashmiri chillies
4 cloves garlic
7cm ginger
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp vinegar
½ tsp salt
1 tsp soy sauce

Is this your kind of dish?

@Anntlf I’ve not used them but I’m sure they are good. This is a simple Achaar. No need to soak as they soften while cooking

This looks lovely, I will be watching to make for Saturday evening snacks. Just a question though I’ve seen soybeans in some Momo Achaar recipes , what are your thoughts, also are we soaking the chillies 😊

@Sue Geen Yey!!
1. You can prep dough before if you want to be organised
2. I was planning to frying mine but I have a metal steamer so that’s what I will use. Use what you have!
3. White vinegar or cider vinegar will be fine
Hope that helps!

I'll be cooking, but a number of questions
1. should we prep dough in advance, and what flour is best? plain flour, strong flour or atta flour.
2. what steamer will you be using. a recipe for bao dumplings I use says that using a metal steamer can cause drip back onto dumplings, and recommends using a bamboo steamer
3. which vinegar would you recommend for the achaar? I seem to have a varied collection at the moment 🤣🤣

looking forward to Friday. xx

I received a message to say that you’re changing the time of the live stream.
Is that correct, ‘coz I’ll need to reset my alarm 🚨⏰🚨⏰❓
