I think that the pan might have absorbed some turmeric though giving the cabbage a yellow tint!

thanks @Hari Ghotra . 1 onion sliced and 1 Clive garlic. fried in rapeseed oil till soft. half chopped chilli and about 2 tsp grated ginger added. fried a few minutes longer then around 1lb sliced white cabbage added. pan covered and steamed for around 20 mins on low heat. it works well with most veg, including green beans, brocolli etc. I often serve it as a side with a non curry meal.
